OUR LOVE STORY

How Eric and I met

Eric and I first met in Granville, Ohio early Spring 2013 through a mutual friend. I was attending Denison University and Eric was attending the Ohio State University. Now here is the tricky part. When Eric and I met, we both knew that he was going back to the Carolinas for a job opportunity, where there is warmer weather, the beach is near and so is Eric’s family. Knowing there was something special between us, we were confronted with the decision–whether to move forward with the relationship–or not. I am sure you can guess what the decision was or otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this! Long distance worked in our favor as we really got to know each other. Facetime calls almost everyday and visits spaced out 3-4 months apart. When daily conversations are about 2 hours long and face to face like that, you really get to know someone. Fast forward to summer of 2015, right before I went to graduate school in Los Angeles to pursue my degree in Social Work, we lived with each other for that summer. So now the distance between us will go from approximately 600 miles to nearly quadruple that–2,400 miles.

Come January 2016, Eric quit his job, moved across the country, drove 32 hours in a uhaul packed with all of his belongings, car and motorcycle in tow, and we were reunited. Right before the pandemic, we moved from Los Angeles to San Diego, both with new jobs, and found peace knowing we were able to be amongst each other through the quarantine. Trips to national parks, camping ventures, and working from home, we got through it together. Fast forward to May 2021, Eric and I took a visit to Atlanta to see Eric’s family. He took me to the Atlanta Zoo–an ode to the location of where our first date was, Columbus zoo–and proposed. And of course I said yes! Through whatever life has thrown our way–long distance, a pandemic, life stressors, multiple moves, and job changes–we have endured and stuck together. Now is the time to make it known and official to the world what we have always known in our hearts–we belong together.
